MGM Restaurant: the real OG

No, you're not in Vegas. This is not the Grand. But Nanaimo's 36-year-old MGM (Mighty Good Meals) Restaurant is like a trip back through time to the old Sin City Strip, minus the slots.

Spacious, wood-panelled, with wall-to-wall booths, the MGM is huge. It hosts Prom dinner parties, live music brunches, chess nights, and features an inset dance floor and disco ball(!). The soundtrack is 50s and 60s American nostalgic pop.

MGM's simple menu avoids the mistake of menu-overreach made by so many diners. You will not find veal cordon bleu or steak tartar (Who orders this anyway?) on the menu. What MGM does have is old school, good value-for-money, tasty food.

We recommend dining in, the Reuben, with salad or soup du jour.

Open Wednesday to Sunday 10am - 7pm, with take out, ample parking, and easy wheelchair access.
